1. Spring Flowerpots

 - 1. Cotswold Pastry Pot, Full

These are pots from my Spring collection, all made by my own hands in my Wisconsin studio.  They can be pre-ordered for shipment in April, May or June.

I've taken inspriation for this spring's collection from my years of studying and making reproductions of early American salt-glazed pottery, as well as my admiration for English country garden pottery.

More to come as the weather warms up, and the days grow longer!

1. Cotswold Pastry Pot, Full - 1. Cotswold Pastry Pot, Full

The crimped pastry roping on this pot is inspired by English flowerpots from the Cotswold region.

As I throw this form, I work enough clay to the middle to make a generous bead that can be formed into crimped pastry roping. With a few deft movements of my fingers while the wheel is still spinning slowly, I can transform the simple clay bead into crimped pastry detail, that will play nicely against the color and form of your planting.

3. Mineral Point Piecrust under Rim - 3. Mineral Point Piecrust under Rim

This style of rim was done by potters in the Mineral Point area of southwestern Wisconsin in the 1860's

I've always felt that it had a simple, yet elegant feel. The piecrusting under the rim reminds me of the ornamented cornices found under the eaves in federal style architecture.
