1. Spring Flowerpots

 - 1. Cotswold Pastry Pot, Full

These are pots from my Spring collection, all made by my own hands in my Wisconsin studio.  They can be pre-ordered for shipment in April, May or June.

I've taken inspriation for this spring's collection from my years of studying and making reproductions of early American salt-glazed pottery, as well as my admiration for English country garden pottery.

More to come as the weather warms up, and the days grow longer!

1. Cotswold Pastry Pot, Full - 1. Cotswold Pastry Pot, Full

The crimped pastry roping on this pot is inspired by English flowerpots from the Cotswold region.

As I throw this form, I work enough clay to the middle to make a generous bead that can be formed into crimped pastry roping. With a few deft movements of my fingers while the wheel is still spinning slowly, I can transform the simple clay bead into crimped pastry detail, that will play nicely against the color and form of your planting.

3. Double Rim Fluted Bowls - 3. Double Rim Fluted Bowls

These pots we some of the "crowd favorites" in the garden center pottery demos I did this spring. The fluting is done one flute at a time just before taking the pot off the wheel.

The split rim adds a sort of cornice around the rim, which I think gives it an elegant feel.

#12 Double Rim Fluted Bowl, SOLD OUT Approximately 13" top diameter X 10" tall $70.00
#6 Double Rim Fluted Bowl, SOLD OUT Approximately 10'' top diameter X 8'' tall $48.00

3. Mineral Point Piecrust under Rim - 3. Mineral Point Piecrust under Rim

This style of rim was done by potters in the Mineral Point area of southwestern Wisconsin in the 1860's

I've always felt that it had a simple, yet elegant feel. The piecrusting under the rim reminds me of the ornamented cornices found under the eaves in federal style architecture.

#6 Mineral Point Rim, approximately 9" top outside diameter x 8" tall. $44.00
#4 Mineral Point Rim, SOLD OUT approximately 8'' top outside diameter x 6.5'' tall. $36.00

4. Split Rim Geranium Pots - 4. Split Rim Geranium Pots

Geraniums are a favorite for both indoors and outdoors. The white clay and terra cotta moss finish on the pots provide a wonderful contrast to the many colorful geranium varieties available.

The split rim with a wavy ribbon feel to the scallops, will add nice visual detail to your planting, without detracting from your colorful flowers.

#6 Ribbon Rim Geranium Pot, approximately 10" top outside diameter x 8" tall $44.00
#4 Ribbon Rim Geranium Pot, SOLD OUT approximately 8.5" top outside diameter x 6.5" tall $34.00

5. Split Rim Pansy Pot - 5. Split Rim Pansy Pot

A low, wide pot like this is perfect for a planting of multi-colored pansies.

Split rims add a bit of visual detail that can be enhanced further by adding other design elements. Adding scallops, zig-zags, roping or other coggling gives each style a unique flavor. I find that these details help enhance the natural beauty of what is planted in them, without trying to steal the show.

Split Rim Pancheon, SOLD OUT approximately 12.5" top outside diameter x 5.5" tall $44.00

6. Spiral Fluted Urn - 6. Spiral Fluted Urn

This rounded garden urn is taken a little different direction using a spiraled fluting which is done last thing before taking it off the wheel.

Combining the spherical shape with the pedestal base makes for a distinctive, and will make your planting a focal point on your deck or front steps.

    Description Price Quantity
#6 Spiral Fluted Urn, SOLD OUT approximately 9" top outside diameter x 8" tall $44.00
#12 Spiral Fluted Urn, approximately 11" top outside diameter x 10" tall $70.00

7. Galena Crimped Rim Ovoid - 7. Galena Crimped Rim Ovoid

This pot blends the classically beautiful form of the New England ovoid crock, with the more ornate crimped rim decorations of 19th century flowerpots from Galena, Illinois.

Extra visual detail comes from the splitting the rim during throwing, and then giving it the pie crust crimping treatment.

#6 Galena Crimped Rim Ovoid, ONLY ONE LEFT approximately 8'' top outside diameter x 8'' tall $44.00

8. Dentil Rims - 8. Dentil Rims

Dentil rims offer a simple pattern of adornment that can become either a focal point, or an accent.

These pieces have a dentil pattern that is a bit bolder than many styles I've made that borrow from Federal architecture and 19th century flower pots. I think that when combined with these simple shapes, the result looks a bit more modern.

#6 Dentil Rim Bowl, approximately 10" top outside diameter x 5.5" tall $44.00

9. Fluted Pots - 9. Fluted Pots

The fluted detail on these pots adds upward visual movement that is especially helpful to a wide, low form.

I've been playing around with fluting that is straight, as well as spiral, and combining it with full strong rims, as well as more whimsical crimped rims.
