Handmade garden pottery - Wakefield Studio

Wakefield Studio LLC is the studio of Peter Wakefield Jackson, a master potter with more than 30 years experience making pottery by hand.  Peter has been making pottery since 1971, and is interested in beautiful form, simple utility, the history of potters and pottery, and the ongoing struggle for viability in the marketplace for handmade artisan goods.

Peter hand throws his work on a potters wheel, and before firing, applies a proprietary mineral wash that gives a unique antiqued effect.  The pots are then fired to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit to give them lasting durability.

Through a long friendship with Guy Wolff, Wakefield Studio was a founding member of the Guy Wolff Guild, a loose association of craftsmen who use traditional methods to make garden pottery in the spirit of craftsmen from the 18th and 19th century.  Peter and Guy first met in 1986, when both were involved in projects to reproduce 19th century style American salt-glazed pottery.  From 1996 through 2006, Wakefield Studio produced the Guy Wolff line for Smith & Hawken stores, producing the white clay line by hand in Wisconsin, and making other styles by hand in Honduras, Vietnam and China.

For pottery handmade by Guy Wolff in his Connecticut studio, you'll need to visit his studio outside of Bantam, CT.  Guy's pots can also be found on his web at www.guywolff.com.
